Anissa Garcia of Aisha Coley Casting in Los Angeles, California, reached out to us with the following message:

“We are casting an upcoming independent film based on a book, and we are seeking to cast someone to play the esteemed Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. We were hoping to have a conversation with you about the role, how to authentically cast it, and perhaps how to explore the Indian community more deeply.

An independent feature film being directed by Ava DuVernay, producer of THE WHITE TIGER, and the director of SELMA and 13th.

SEEKING:

[BHIMRAO AMBEDKAR] Character is a man, ideally mid 20s-mid 30s, from India. In the film, he will age from 24-40. Ambedkar arrived in America as a Columbia graduate student focused on race, caste, and class. He was a Dalit (the lowest caste in India) and through his studies in America, he drafted India’s new constitution, which shed a different light on his people.

Actors from the Ambedkar community are encouraged to apply.

We are also looking for this role at 9 years old.

Actor must be available during the month of December. The film is SAG-AFTRA, with no requirement that actors are members to be considered.
