Debates on reservation abate, but Dalit/Adivasi students wake up to the growing caste-discrimination like it were a recurring nightmare. Series of suicides of Dalit/Adivasi students in higher educational institutions across the country have not stirred the nation’s conscience, let alone that of the high priests’ of ‘the centers of excellence’. And discrimination prevails, not as an aberration to the principles of justice and equality but as a continuum of the revered traditions. In the heart of the nation’s capital, AIIMS, VMMC, JNU, DU flout reservation policy, intimidate our students, and push them into years of wilderness, even out of the campuses.
