Round Table India

The following letter is a representation to the Union Minister of Human Resources Development on the 30-01-2016, from an observer who witnessed the situtation of the SC/ST Faculty at NIT, Warangal:

To

The Honourable Minister,
Ministry of Human Resources and Development, GOI,

Respected Madam,

This is to bring to your notice that the SC/ST faculty of NIT Warangal came out of campus and they are on agitation regarding the discriminations shown in issuing the call letters for the on-going recruitment process commencing from 1st February 2016. I visited the agitation camp and found that the situation is highly volatile and it may cause damage to the Government also. The Director, NIT Warangal seems to misuse his powers when he is at the verge of completion of his tenure by exploiting the vacancy of Chairman BOG position. I was told that the following discriminations were shown on the faculty of SC/ST community.

• The SC/ST representative nominated by the administration in the scrutinizing committee has resigned because of his personal reasons and the scrutiny was carried out in the absence of SC/ST nominee. This is not acceptable legally.

• Few relaxations were given to internal faculty on the request of teachers association. But the scrutinizing committee extended some more relaxations which are favourable to the open category candidates but not for SC/ST candidates even though there are provisions exclusively for SC/STs as per GOI norms.

• In this process of scrutiny, most of SC/ST faculty were affected and not been given call letters for the interviews.

• The executive of SC/ST association brought the above issues to the notice of the administration (I/C Director, Dean (Faculty Affairs) and the members of the scrutiny committee) and asked the clarifications for the above issues. Their responses on this issues were suspicious and also confirm irregularities and gross violations accorded for the community people. Since as there was no option, the SC/ST faculty came out from the administration building and started their agitation for their genuine demands.

Further I also add here that the interim order issued by honourable High Court also supports their genuine demands. Hence, I request the Hon’ble Minister of HRD to interfere in the matter immediately and see that the justice is done to the aggrieved SC/ST faculty at NIT Warangal at the earliest to avoid blames on us. My personal feeling is that the interviews may be postponed till the above issues are resolved. I am writing this to avoid friction between administration and SC/ST faculty and to avoid further complications.
