The working class should have a clear and in-depth understanding about social and economic conditions in historical context to challenge fascism on its rise. On Feb 23 , Saturday, Ambedkar King Study Circle (AKSC) organized a workshop on ‘What is Fascism and How to Resist it?’ in San Jose, California. The aim of this workshop was to raise the working class consciousness to challenge fascism ideologically. Participants of the workshop had gone through two works of Com. Georgi Dimitrov: 1. Unity of the Working Class against Fascism and 2. The Fascist Offensive and the Tasks of the Communist International in the Struggle of the Working Class against Fascism.

Ms. Nassim Nouri, member of Green Party, started with her party’s 10 key values and on how social justice and democracy are inextricably coupled in them. She walked the participants through the details of America’s imperialist intervention in destabilising democracies across the globe and establishing dictatorships in Latin America in particular. She observed America’s recent intervention in Venezuela is in the interest of the capitalist class. She said that the socialist governments of Latin America since 1990s have taken pro people, land and economic reforms which have benefitted the indigenous population and vast majority of the working class under the leadership of Hugo Chavez, Rafael Correa, Evo Morales, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Kirchners, José Mujica, Michelle Bachelet etc. (Facebook live video of Nassim can be accessed here https://www.facebook.com/groups/1249573841788059/permalink/2106373632774738/)

Mr. Mani M Manivannan, a well known Tamil and Indian scholar in the Bay Area, explained about the evolution of the Hindutva from Jan Sangh to the Bharatiya Janata Party. He narrated the social, cultural and political infiltration of Hindutva forces in the South India during the post Indian emergency period ie between June 1975 and March 1977. Mani emphasized on a grand anti-Hindutva coalition to defeat BJP/RSS in the coming elections. Mr. Michael Paradela of Anakbayan, a California based mass organization organizing the people of Philippines origin, tracked the fascist suffering of Philippines at the hands of the national bourgeoisie abetted by the imperialists. He walked the participants through the rise of dictator Ferdinand Marcos in 1960s and the 1972 people’s protest against outright corruption of the Marcos regime. The protest and mass movement included the students, workers, peasants, and the youth, under the guidance of Kabataang Makabayan and the Communist Party of the Philippines. Participants enthusiastically participated in the discussion. S Karthikeyan and Chaitanya Diwadkar of AKSC moderated the discussion. Chaitanya led the overall program. At the end of the program participants express their opinion to organize more such workshops to develop real understanding on real issue.
